It's an incredibly sad day in the world of radio. On Saturday, we lost a truly beloved and adored member of our family. Our friend and morning radio legend KIDD KRADDICKpassed away unexpectedly, at the age of 53.
He was at a charity golf event in Gretna, Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans. His cause of death hasn't been released, but an internal memo at Clear Channel says he suffered an aneurysm. The event was for his charity, Kidd's Kids, which raises about $800,000 EVERY YEAR for kids ages five to 11 who have terminal or chronic illnesses, or were accident victims.
Kidd's real name was David Cradick. His career started in Tampa in 1978, where a program director called him "Kidd" . . . and the nickname stuck.
Kidd has won a TON of awards over the years, including the Marconi Award for Major Market Radio Personality of the Year, the Radio Music Award for Air Personality of the Year, and the Radio and Records award for Major Market Personality of the Year.
One last note. Just last week, Kidd did a segment on his show that now seems eerie . . . about what you'd say if you knew you were on your deathbed.
He said, quote, "When I die, you have permission to take a bunch of creepy pictures of my body. I want to thank all you guys for being at my deathbed today. I'm going to miss you so much."
